Twitter is having a really hard time getting people involved in the service. Dick Costolo, CEO wants to have every person on the planet connected to twitter, But over the past 5 years it has not been easy. Some people like to think Twitter is a lot like RSS reader. As Twitter begins to grow though, it seems to be misused. It was originally planned to be the broadcasting of short messages from a user to his or her followers or a communication tool obsessively focused on simplicity. I have a Twitter and I love my Twitter. But it does seem like it is changing a little bit.

Education and Training

Education and training workers guide and train people. As a teacher, you could influence young lives. You could also support the work of a classroom teacher as a counselor, librarian, or principal. You could coach sports activities or lead community classes. You could also work with adults. For example, you could lead training to employees in a business. Or you could work as a university or college professor for undergraduate or graduate students.

Some jobs that fall under this cluster include; coaches, teachers, counselors, principals, or a librarian. For these jobs you need to be very outgoing and patient. I do think this fits me. My mother is always telling me how I should be a teacher. But, I’m not sure if this is what I want to do. I think it would be really cool to become a physical therapist or a physical trainer. I want to be able to do something that I would love, and I love sports and being with kids or small children. So I feel like this would be the best job for me.

This week we worked on Google docs. The things I liked about using Google docs was that my work would save automatically and I didn’t have to worry about saving it. I also liked that my partner and I could work on our project at the same time. What I didn’t like about Google docs is that when working with my partner it took a while to communicate with each other through the chat. It would have been a little easier if we could have communicated with each other by sitting next to, or close to our partner.  Yes I did like being able to work on the same document with my partner. I think Google docs could improve by putting a Bluetooth in so if you have a partner you can communicate verbally than by typing because typing takes a lot of time and can be hard to explain the things you need to.  But, overall I think my project turned out very well and I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.

 

Article Review

The ocean's are so huge. They make the worlds oxygen. Many scientist have tried and discovered what the bottom of the ocean is like, but it will only take technology to do this job. Scientist need to mobilize a new generation of self powed robots that can explore the oceans from top to bottom but the most important thing is that it still needs to communicate with the scientists. A new species is discovered in the ocean once every two weeks. It would be pretty cool to see what lies at the bottom of the ocean.

James Naismith

            James Naismith was born November 6 1861 in Ramsay Township, near Almonte, Ontario.  In 1871 James and his three brothers were orphaned by his maternal grandmother when both of his parents died of typhoid fever. Even though he went through a lot with his mother, father, and grandmother dying, he liked to play and concentrate on sports. James was an outstanding athlete. He played intensely in all sports but he had self-control. He went to McGill University in Montreal. There, he pursued athletics including rugby and gymnastics, winning the Silver and Gold Wickstead Medals for "Best All-Around Athlete" in 1885 and 1887. In 1890 he got his Master of Divinity degree. He continued his education, studying theology at Presbyterian College. He took a job at McGill as Physical Education director in order to finance his schooling. James married Maude E. Sherman and had five children with her. They were married for forty-three years. After she died, within 6 months, James married Florence Kinkaid.       

The Young Men’s Christian Association, also known as the Y.M.C.A had been established in 1851. James had visited the Y.M.C.A often and thought he could help young people through athletics with the help of the organization.  He learned of the Y.M.C.A International Training School and that summer he enrolled there, where he took and taught classes, and participated in sports. He was later asked to become the Athletic Director of the Y.M.C.A in Springfield, MA. With this new job, he had to come up with new games that could help bring recreational sports into the gym. He needed to come up with a game that could be played indoors during the winter months between the football and baseball seasons that would keep athletes in top shape over this period.

            James had to do a lot of thinking. He started to think of a childhood game he used to play when he was young, which was known as “Duck-on-a-rock”. The games involved two peach baskets and a soccer ball. With 18 students in his class, he divided them into two teams of nine, each with a goal keeper, two guards, three centers, two wings, and a home-man. Each team would try to toss a soccer ball into the peach baskets. Eventually they decided to cut the bottoms out of the baskets so they didn’t have to climb up and grab the ball out of it each time someone scored. In 1893 the metal rim was invented, and in 1895, the backboard appeared. The first official basketball was invented in 1909. After changing the peach baskets for open hoop nets, James Naismith soon wrote thirteen official rules for the game.

            In 1897, seven years after, the first intercollegiate game was played, and in 1898, the first Collegiate Association was formed.  The National Basketball League (NBL) was formed in 1937 but later in 1949, the Basketball Association of America (BAA), joined the NBL to form the National Basketball Association (NBA).  Today basketball is less brutal than it was before, and is now played by five players from each team on the court at a time—two forwards, two guards and a center. In 1936, basketball became an Olympic sport then, in 1976, women's basketball was added to the Olympics. And finally, The Women's Professional Basketball League was established in 1978.

            James put a lot of thought into inventing basketball. He changed a lot of things to make the sport even better and he tried to make basketball a game of skill and non-physical so the church would like it. James never pursued self-recognition, honors, or riches for his invention. He died November 28, 1939 and he was buried there alongside his first wife. Today, the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts is dedicated to Naismith, as well as to basketball's greatest players, coaches and teams.

Fair Use

Fair use guidelines tell us how much of the copyrighted material we can use without violating the law. For text, you can use up to 10%, but no more than 1000 words of essays, articles, or stories, of a single copyrighted work. You can use up to 250 words of an entire poem, or portion of a poem but you can not use more than 3 poems from a single poet.

For photos, you cannot use more than 5 images from a single artist or photographer. You many use up to 10%, but no more than 15 images from a single publication.

For music, you cannot change or alter the work. You may use up to 10%, but no more than 3 minutes, of a single movie, TV show or video. You may use up to 10%, but no more than 30 seconds of music and lyrics from a single musical work. You must purchase performance rights to hold a live performance of copyrighted work.

Flickr

I have recently been added to Flickr. I have learned how to upload photo's to a photo gallery and how to "re blog" other peoples photos in a photo gallery. Advantages of using Flickr is you don't have to worry about copyright. Tumblr is in the same way, but you can upload more than 18 photos and you don't have photo galleries. I like being able to re post photos that i like on my profile without having to worry about copyright and such. Its also a good way for your friends to get to know you better.You upload or re post the photos that you like and mean something to you. When friends look at you galleries and see what you have re posted, they can see some of the things you are interested in. Flickr is a cool and fun way to share photos for others to see.

Thoughts on ID Theft and Internet Saftey

My thoughts on ID Theft and Internet Safety are simple; be careful. Deputy Krupp gave us a very good and explanatory presentation about Internet safety. He had good facts and recommendations that i wouldn't have thought of. His presentation really opened my eyes and made me think more about what i was doing on the Internet and my phone. It made me think twice about every message i sent and every status i posted.

ID Theft is not okay, but stuff like that happens everyday and you need to know how to deal with it. From these past couple weeks, i have learned a lot about ID Theft. If it were ever happen to me, i would know what to do and how to deal with it. I also know how to avoid it as much as possible.

You just have to know what your doing on and off the internet and be careful, smart, and have common sense!

New Technology of 2012

The new technology I found was a portable charger called PowerTrekk. Its used for when your some place that doesn't have a outlet. All you have to do is put a teaspoon of water in it and it will generate enought power to power a phone, camera, or a GPS device.

Christmas Break

Over Christmas break my Uncle Ryan came home from Alabama. It was the first time I have seen him in 2 years and it was really cool to see him. I got to hang out with my friends and the people I love. When it snowed my brothers and I got out our 4 wheelers and pulled a sled around behind them all day. I spent a lot of time with my family, my basketball teammates, and my good friends. I had a great Christmas break.
